Breakdown of what the SAT fee waiver includes and covers.
Fee Waivers
This guide explains exactly what expenses are covered by the SAT fee waiver to help you plan your SAT budget. For comprehensive SAT preparation resources and further support, visit SAT SphereSAT Sphere.
The SAT fee waiver is designed to reduce financial barriers by covering key expenses related to the SAT process:
SAT Registration Fees:
Up to two free SAT registrations are provided. This includes the cost of taking the test and, when applicable, additional fees such as the optional essay (which is now largely discontinued).
Unlimited Score Reports:
You can send your SAT scores to as many colleges as needed at no additional cost, even after test day.
College Application Fee Waivers:
After taking the SAT with a fee waiver, you gain access to free college application fee waivers for over 2,000 participating institutions. These waivers are visible in your College Board account.
CSS Profile Submissions:
The fee waiver covers free CSS Profile submissions for up to two colleges. Students with exceptional financial need might qualify for additional free submissions.
Priority Access to SAT Practice Tools:
While general SAT practice is available to everyone, fee waiver recipients often receive priority support and tailored guidance. Along with resources like Khan Academy, SAT SphereSAT Sphere provides valuable tips and study plans to enhance your preparation.
Late Registration Fees (When Applicable):
In some cases, the College Board may waive late registration fees for eligible students using a fee waiver. Note that this benefit is not always guaranteed.
The fee waiver does not cover all related expenses. In particular, it does not include:
Test Date or Center Changes:
Any fees for changes made after the registration deadline are not covered.
Rush Score Reports:
If you require expedited delivery of your scores, additional fees will apply.
SAT Subject Tests:
These tests are discontinued and are not part of the fee waiver benefits.
International Testing Fees:
Fee waivers are primarily available to domestic U.S. students; international testing fees remain the student's responsibility.
